The Otay river watershed is one of 11 watersheds in San Diego County. The purpose of this website is to share the beauty of the wildlife, flora and history that are part of the Otay river valley. We also show how people live and recreate in this area.
Otay is pronounced Oh-Tie. It is derived from the Kumeyaay language. It is believed to come from the word "otai", which means "brushy"; another possible derivation is "Tou-ti" meaning "big mountain"; still another possible origin is "etaay" meaning "big".
We love to see others enjoying the trails safely and taking care of this beautiful valley! We would love your photos! If you would like to contribute a photo to add to our gallery, please email it to us. We know that the wildlife, flora and history sections are not comprehensive. If there is a species or a part of history that we missed, please share it with us.
